Hey what's up today we're gonna take a look at Xiaomi's electric scooter. This design award-winning scooter has been out in the Xiaomi store for some time already but I just received mine today so let's have a look at what's good and what's maybe not that good. Let's go! The scooter came in this pretty large box, as it's a pretty large scooter It does look really
nicely designed and it's details look really good. It comes with a 7800 mAh battery That should be able to last for about 30 kilometers. It should take about 4-5 hours for a full charge from 0 to 100% battery. The handles are made out of a nice feeling rubber. On the left handle you'll find the brake and a small bell, and on the right handle is the acceleration knob. In the
center you'll find a battery indicator that can also show if the scooter is limited in speed. There's an on/off switch that has a few functions as well. It allows you to turn on the headlights which is really a pretty strong light. And on the tail there's also a tail-light that also indicates when you're using the brakes. So this was the very first time of me using it
down here on the street. I needed about 10 seconds to find out you'll first need to give it a first push by foot and once you're in motion you can use the acceleration knob to take off. I first set it limited to 18 kilometers as maximum speed, which is its default beginners mode but I quickly turned that off making the scooter go up to 25 kilometers an
hour. So, right away I took it on a ride to grab some lunch nearby the West-bund here in Shanghai. So I could try the scooter out and do some shots from the scooter. The maximum speed of 25 kilometers per hour is actually quite fast and I really start to like it to quickly cover small distances. You can quite easily maneuver through traffic situations so it's actually really convenient. The
Mijia scooter connects with your phone or tablet over bluetooth from where you could monitor the speed, change its settings, update the firmware and actually lock the scooter This lock basically disables the wheels and it will sound an alarm when its being moved This alarm only goes off when you try moving it. If you simply pick up the scooter this alarm won't go off. And this brings me to the out-of-the-box
usability situation. The scooter was really easy to set up; It just needed four bolts to be screwed in, a quick charge, and you're ready to go. I simply turned it on and within 30 seconds I got the feel of it and that was that. The total weight of the scooter is 12.5 kilograms. So you can quite easily fold the steering wheel down, which nicely locks in place,
and pick it up. But I must say that 12.5 kilograms is a bit too much if you plan on walking around with it in a mall for example. I don't know about you guys, but I didn't really feel comfortable just leaving the scooter outside of a mall with only that bluetooth lock enabled. So I'd say you really need to get a lock, so you can actually attach it somewhere. I
noticed that there are some accessories to attach your mobile phone to this steering wheel, and this is actually pretty nice if you want to be able to monitor the scooters speed from your phone. Overall I'm giving the scooter a 9.5 for its design. It's really nice looking, it feels robust, but it's still a scooter.. I'm giving it a 8 for usability. Although, if an actual lock was
included that might have been a little bit higher. I personally would have liked to see brakes on the right side of the steering wheel as well. I am giving it a 9 for battery life, a 9 for performance, so overall I'm giving the Xiaomi Mijia scooter a 8 point 8 out of 10.
